In a Bottle: Heather Robertson, the Lagg Corriecravie of Whisky
Global Impact, Local Roots
If you’ve ever explored the world of Arran Single Malt or Lagg, there’s a good chance you’ve felt Heather Robertson’s influence — even if you haven’t met her. As Global Brand Manager for Isle of Arran Distillers, Heather looks after both Arran and Lagg, ensuring the brands shine consistently worldwide. From supporting sales managers and distributors to running marketing campaigns, managing social media, websites, and the community newsletter, she’s part of the driving force behind how these whiskies are seen and experienced by whisky lovers worldwide.
“I support our sales managers and distributors to ensure both brands have a consistent and impactful presence across global markets — and also manage our content online for whisky fans directly.”
From Barley Fields to Bottles
Heather’s connection to whisky might seem inevitable. Growing up surrounded by barley fields in North East Scotland, she jokes about how it’s funny to have been raised where whiskies start their journey, only to now work on how they exist in the world once they’re bottled.
Her first professional role in the industry came after a successful career at a creative branding agency, where she led digital strategy and campaigns for clients across a range of industries — including whisky. That experience gave her the perfect toolkit to translate brand stories into engaging campaigns, and it’s one she’s poured straight into Arran and Lagg.
A Dram with Her Name On It
When asked what dram best represents her personality, Heather doesn’t hesitate: Lagg Corriecravie. She describes it as “full of contrasts and surprises — strong-willed, creative, smart, refined, but with an edge of ‘Don’t mess with me.’”
Much like the whisky itself, Heather balances professionalism with authenticity, always bringing energy, creativity, and a spark of personality to her work.
Challenging Misconceptions
Heather is also keen to challenge common myths about her distilleries. Many people are surprised to learn that Lochranza Distillery recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, despite still being seen as a “new kid on the block.”
Lagg, often mistakenly assumed to be an offshoot of Arran, is very much its own distillery with distinct character. Heather and her team are on a mission to show that young whisky isn’t a drawback and that peated whisky isn’t just a smoky smack in the face.
“I’m always delighted when consumers at tasting events express surprise at Lagg’s excellent quality — having previously written it off for its age — and it’s truly only going to get better.”
Passion Meets Production
Even though her work is primarily marketing-focused, Heather hasn’t lost her curiosity about production. She often joins the teams at Lagg and Lochranza to help pull levers, press buttons, and even fill casks.
“I find the farmy, industrial-ness of the production side really appealing and warmly familiar, but I’m not sure I have the chops! It’s incredibly hard work and also involves a lot of numbers — not my jam!”
These hands-on experiences deepen her connection to the whisky she promotes and give her first-hand insight into the craft behind every bottle.
Life Beyond Whisky
Outside of whisky, Heather has another life on stage. She’s been singing professionally for over a decade and now with her band, The Rollin Drones, performing worldwide. She considers herself lucky to blend her two passions, particularly when performing at whisky festivals.
And when it comes to travel, she’s a big advocate for Arran: “It’s stunning, with something for everyone — including two incredible distilleries.”
Desert Island Whisky
Heather’s whisky choice for a desert island is clear: red wine-cask finishes. From the classic Arran Amarone Wine Cask Finish to the indulgent Shiraz Cask Finish at Lochranza, these rich, rounded drams are her ultimate comfort.
Heather Robertson embodies creativity, passion, and authenticity. Whether she’s shaping global brand strategy, challenging misconceptions, or singing on stage, she brings energy, personality, and dedication — much like the whiskies she champions.
